2013 Challenge Update

Two days ago, I posted the recap on the January Challenges I had set out in the end of December. This post is about the challenges I set for myself for the whole year. Being that we are starting a new month, I want to analyze my progress.

Here we go:

Run 2013 miles in 2013 - In January, I did not reach my running goal for that month. At the beginning of the year, I gave myself a goal of running 2013 miles in 2013, which meant that I needed to run an average of 167.75 miles every month. I did not make the math before I set this goal, obviously. But I will not take it down. This goal will help me continue running and I will get as close as I can to 2013. So far, after running 33.6 miles in January, I need to run another 1979.4 miles. This means I need to run nearly 180 miles each month until December. Crazy. I know.

Not gain 5lbs in total in any month – Not only did I not gain 5 lbs, I did not gain any weight during the month of January, thank goodness! I actually lost weight. I started the year off great and I hope to finish it off that way as well.

Run at least 1 race every month - I rocked this challenge for this month! I hosted and ran the Declaration Fun Run on January 1st, I ran The Biggest Loser 5K RunWalk in Ft. Lauderdale on January 6th and I also ran the Tropical 5K in Miami Beach on January 26th. In February, I have the Foam Fest 5K on February 2nd, RunWild 5K on February 9th and possibly The Biggest Loser Off Road Challenge on February 23rd. Staying on track! Not losing my focus!

It is quite satisfying to look over my goals and challenges every month as it allows me to see my progress. Assessing my hard work provides me with the motivation to continue and to strive for better. Running 2013 miles doesn’t sound easy, and well, it’s not, but knowing that I’m working towards it makes it worth every bit of sweat.

How are you doing with your goals and challenges for the year? How often do you follow up to check your progress?

    • Thank you! The year did start off slowly and the swollen leg and the vacation weren’t much help but I’m definitely planning on staying on track in February and the months to come. Appreciate the encouragement! Thanks again!
